Lalabug Patreon Launch, March 20!
I can’t tell you how excited i am to actually be announcing this… i’ve been dreaming and incubating and nuturing it for years and now, very aptly on the spring equinox, i can gently nudge it from the nest. On March 20, i am delighted to open my patreon community - a place where you can surround yourself in the magic of felt.
Each month I will be posting video tutorials alternating between instructing sample-work and “small works” projects - each specifically designed to incrementally increase in skill, while also being manageable enough to create at your kitchen table (see video at the end of this post).
Sample projects will consist of creating a 6”x6” square, each focusing on a different skill, technique or surface treatment, culmunating in a library of samples that you can use for reference to create anything you can dream of. Tutorials will start from the very beginning, so whether you have never touched wool before, or if you are a seasoned felter, they should offer lots of opportunities to learn & grow. If you follow along and create the samples offered every second month, i imagine your sample collection becoming a beautiful mosiac to display on your wall or perhaps bound into a strange, but wonderful felt reference book :D We’ll see as it evolves!
The small works tutorial uploaded every other month will offer an opportunity to make a managable-sized sculpture or phyiscal thing to delight in. Often, i’ll incorporate the skill we just learned in the previous sample project, but equally so, we may make something that is decided by the whims of the community. The first small works project i will be offering is how to make a fuzzy bumblebee… the next may be how to make leaves, or candles, or flowers, or butterflies, who knows!
All of these tutorial videos will accumulate in collections on the Lalabug patreon page, where you can work at your own pace and in your own time.
Now, while this community is mostly focussed as a space for learning felting, it is also designed to be place for people who just enjoy felt or want to support my work… with a few perks ;) The calming video tutorials, behind the scenes content, Q&A’s, studio tours, first peek and chance to buy what i’m creating, giveaways, and more, may interest those who are not as keen to get their hands wet and poked with felting needles! lol! I hope that this community offers a cozy space for fiber enthusiasts to belong and connect.
One of the most wonderful things that i will be offering, i think, is the Discord community. There, we can all connect with each other, share progess, ask questions, show off projects, share favourite supply sources and inspirations. I will make a point of visiting the discord community at least once per week to provide feedback, answer questions and just hang out :D
I’m really excited to provide all of this through the Patreon platform… for many reasons. One, it offers social connection to a dedicated group of kind and supportive people (of which i know all of you to be!) without having to use social media. I don’t know about you, but my nervous system and my heart rebel from being active on Instagram and Facebook (my dopamine seeking brain sometimes likes it, however :D)- i am tired of the algorithms selling me things and ideas, without allowing me to see the people i actually follow. Second, because it works more like a crowd-funding model, i can offer membership at an affordable individual price, rather than high-priced, inaccessible classes. Third, other artist have convinced me that Patreon is a good platform, that actually wants to support artists… and although they definitely take their share, i feel that it is fair.
So march 20 is the day! If this is not of interest to you, not a worry at all, i will still be drifting around my regular social media haunts and sending the odd email to my email list. But if you are interested in joining, i will be offering a 20% discount between March 20-April 20, 2026. This discount stays with you for as long as you are a member - its my way of thanking you for being with me from the beginning :D After April 20, the membership will go back to it’s regular price of $10CAD/month.
If you know of anyone - friends, family, that sweet acqauintance from the renaissance festival - who might be interested in joining my felting community, please do invite them! I want this community to develop naturally so i will not be advertising it (other than posts to my followers) - and word of mouth is my favourite method :D
dear ones, thank you so, so much for being a supporter of my work.
with love,
rena
